Songs In The Key Of Life (My Girl and The Road)

This week I wanna do something a little different. I’m a pretty musical guy. It’s on all day, I’m constantly humming a tune, or scoping the cd shelves for the latest and greatest must haves. I often associate different songs with different events in my life, therefore over the next few days I’m gonna let you in on my soundtrack. Who knows maybe I’ll just turn this into a regular segment. Kinda cool huh? Here we go:

Lucy

I heard this song Sunday night while trying to get Fred asleep and immediately it became my favorite new song. To me it’s all about Lucy and how she’s more of a man than I will ever be.

“Tough” by Craig Morgan

She’s in the kitchen at the crack of dawn
Bacon’s on, coffee’s strong
Kids running wild, taking off their clothes
If she’s a nervous wreck, well it never shows
Takes one to football and one to dance
Hits the Y for aerobics class
Drops by the bank, stops at the store
Has on a smile when I walk through the door
The last to go to bed, she’ll be the first one up
And I thought I was tough

She’s strong, pushes on, can’t slow her down
She can take anything life dishes out
There was a time
Back before she was mine
When I thought I was tough

She’s a gentle word, the sweetest kiss
A velvet touch against my skin
I’ve seen her cry, I’ve seen her break
But in my eyes, she’ll always be strong
There was a time
Back before she was mine
When I thought I was tough

Life On The Road

Back before Fred came along I traveled every weekend selling swim supplies and got to see parts of the south I had only dreamed about before. I was a John Mayer fanatic at that point and even now every time I try to tell Lucy about some of the stuff I saw it always comes out sounding something like this:

“3x5’s” by John Mayer

I'm writing you to
catch you up on places I've been
You held this letter
probably got excited, but there's nothing else inside it
didn't have a camera by my side this time
hopping I would see the world with both my eyes
maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm
in the mood to lose my way with words
Today skies are painted colors of a cowboy's cliche'
And strange how clouds that look like mountains in the sky
are next to mountains anyway
Didn't have a camera by my side this time
Hoping I would see the world with both my eyes
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm
in the mood to lose my way
but let me say
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
it brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside
just no more 3x5's Guess you had to be there
Guess you had to be with me Today I finally overcame
tryin' to fit the world inside a picture frame
Maybe I will tell you all about it when I'm in the mood to
lose my way but let me say
You should have seen that sunrise with your own eyes
it brought me back to life
You'll be with me next time I go outside
no more 3x5's
just no more 3x5's
